Course Description:
This course introduces students to the field of criminology, exploring how crime is defined, measured, and addressed through theory, policy, and practice. Topics include the social construction of laws, criminological theories, biopsychosocial approaches, crime categories and trends, and the structure of the criminal justice system. Students engage with issues of social justice, implicit bias, restorative justice, and evidence-based practices while analyzing contemporary challenges in crime prevention and intervention. Learning takes place through lectures, discussions, assignments, and a final project, with an emphasis on applying concepts to real-world contexts.
