Resource Description:

This textbook, The Introduction to Mass Communication Book, was created using OER materials on the LibreText website, with the intent of reducing costs for in-person Intro to Mass Comm students. The book is a conventionally-structured mass media textbook. The original copyright-free source materials contained instances of outdated information, and much of this was corrected in a custom 2025 update.

Statewide Impact:

Mass Communication classes are offered at many community colleges statewide, to fulfill GE and major requirements, and textbooks typically cost $60 to $200. This OER textbook, intended for a survey course, provides a solid foundation to understand history, theory, and contemporary industries.
